Sesam Workflows Knowledge Centre Help library Tutorials Floating Wind Time Domain
Here you can find a set of tutorials to get you started with the Floating Offshore Wind time domain analyses and a link to our webinar giving an overview of Sesam's different time domain methods.
FLS analysis
Time domain fatigue analysis of a floating wind model using the Response Reconstruction method
This tutorial uses a floating OWT structure (EMULF Delta Floater) to perform a time history FLS analysis using the Response Reconstruction method. Fatigue screening is performed to identify areas with high fatigue damage in the model, and a fatigue hot spot analysis is performed according to DNV-RP-C203.
The tutorial contains the following steps:
- Setting up the model and fatigue hot spot and screening data in GeniE
- Setting up the input for the precompute step to calculate unit-load, unit-motion and unit-wave structure responses in HydroD and executing the precompute step in Sesam Wind Manager
- Setting up the design load cases and performing the reconstruction step and FLS analysis in Sesam Wind Manager, using results from a previously executed coupled analysis in Sima
- Inspecting results in tables in Sesam Wind Manager and visualising the results on the 3D model in Sesam Insight

Time domain fatigue analysis of a floating wind model using the Direct Load Generation method
This tutorial uses a floating OWT structure (OC4) to perform a time history FLS analysis using the Direct Load Generation method. Fatigue screening is performed to identify areas with high fatigue damage in the model, and a fatigue hot spot analysis is performed according to DNV-RP-C203.
The tutorial contains the following steps:
- Setting up the model and fatigue hot spot and screening data in GeniE
- Setting up the design load cases and performing the FLS analysis in Sesam Wind Manager, including running the load generation and structural analysis, using results from a previously executed coupled analysis in either Bladed or Sima
- Inspecting results in tables in Sesam Wind Manager and visualising the results on the 3D model in Sesam Insight

ULS analysis
Time domain plate buckling of a simple plate model
This tutorial shows how to set up buckling check of a simple plate model with girders and stiffeners and a short time-varying load, to then perform a buckling check of the stiffeners according to the stiffener capacity model referred to as SCM2 in DNV-RP-C201.
The tutorial contains the following steps:
- Setting up the model, loading and capacity model in GeniE
- Performing the structural analysis and buckling check using Sesam Core (including Sestra) and inspecting the results

Time domain plate buckling of a floating wind model
This tutorial uses a floating OWT structure (EMULF Delta Floater) to perform a time history plate buckling analysis using the Direct Load Generation method. The plate verification is done according to the DNV-RP-C201 using the stiffener capacity model therein referred to as SCM2. A Jupyter notebook for Python is used to automate the load generation and buckling analysis steps for multiple design load cases (DLCs), reading the DLCs from a spreadsheet.
The tutorial contains the following steps:
- Setting up the model and capacity model in GeniE
- Performing load generation with Wasim using results from a previously executed coupled analysis using either Bladed or Sima
- Performing the structural analysis and buckling check using Sesam Core (including Sestra)
- inspecting and aggregating results over all DLCs

Python examples
Examples demonstrating how to run time domain FLS and ULS analyses for floating wind using Python. The examples use both the OC4 model and EMULF Delta Floater model, using either the Direct Load Generation method or Response Reconstruction method. Various Jupyter notebook examples are included demonstrating how to run Sesam applications in a workflow including custom Python scripts using the Python library OneWorkflow developed by DNV.
