Torsional Vibration Time Domain Calculation

Nauticus Machinery Knowledge Centre Help library Tools and Calculations Torsional Vibration Time Domain Calculation

Module Description

The Time Domain (Transient) Calculation module in Nauticus Torsional Vibration evaluates the dynamic response of torsional systems in time domain due to transient excitations such as ice impacts and electrical short circuits. It output the forced responses in time domain coordinates.

Key Features

  • Force respoinses calculation in time domain calculatioin due to ice impacting according to ice class rule.
    • Tailor made functions for easily define the ice class notations and excitation cases.
    • Identify the worst phase angle for ice impacting versus engine excitation.
    • Identify the worst free water running speed in a specified speed range.
  • Force respoinses calculation in time domain calculatioin due to short circuits of generator set.
    • Tailor made functions for easily define short circuit excitation.
    • Possible to assess the influece of phase angle for short circuit impacting versus engine excitation.
  • Supports two types of damping method (critical mode and dominating order).
  • Speed filter function to mitigate speed noise and stabilize the signal.
  • Tailored torque governor to calculate the delivering torque according to speed signal.
  • Tracks time-dependent variations in rotational speed due to transient excitation.
  • Identify the peak torque and torque amplitude for each shafts.

Workflow

  1. Create the mass-elastic model.
  2. For ice impacting define the Ice class notation and relevant propeller information in Propeller property grid.
  3. Define the speed signal reference mass.
  4. Define the torque capacity curve for the prime mover.
  5. Define the transient excitations.false
    • For ice impacting, define ice excitation pattern.
    • For short circuit, define the short circuit torque.
  6. Set parameters for time domain calculation.
  7. Perform the time domain calculation.
  8. Evaluate the results and create report.
