Nauticus Propeller Blade Tool

Nauticus Machinery Knowledge Centre Help library Tools and Calculations Propeller Blade Tool

Module Description

The Nauticus Propeller Blade tool is designed to calculate the safety against damage in propeller blades and tunnel thrusters based on DNV classification rules. It ensures compliance with both main class requirements (DNV Rules Part 4 Chapter 5 and Class Guideline 0039) and ice class requirements. The tool supports manual input of hydrodynamic loading data derived from external FEM/CFD calculations and provides comprehensive strength checks, including static and fatigue assessments.

Key Features

  • Support blade strength check for both conventional propellers and tunnel thrusters.
  • Comprehensive ice class analysis supporting Baltic ice class and Polar ice class.
  • Manual input capability for stress data from external FEM/CFD calculations.
  • Automated estimation functions for key parameters based on DNV experience.
  • Built-in material property library with default values for common propeller materials.
  • Integrated help tools providing terminology explanations and formula references.
  • Ice class strength analysis based on Finnish-Swedish Ice Class Rules, IACS Polar Ice Class Rules and DNV Class Guidelines-0041.
  • Guided input process for ice class parameters with clear explanations.
  • Automated report generation for compliance verification and classification approval.

Workflow

  1. Select propeller type and enter basic parameters.
  2. Choose ice class notation if required.
  3. Define material properties.
  4. Input blade geometry details.
  5. Provide optional FEM/CFD stress data if relevant.
  6. Specify ice load parameters for ice class.
  7. Select appropriate fatigue analysis method.
  8. Perform calculation and review intermediate calculation parameters.
  9. Verify compliance with safety factors.
  10. Generate final documentation.
