Nauticus Machinery Knowledge Centre Help library Tools and Calculations Gear Faceload Tool
Module Description
The Nauticus Gear Faceload tool evaluates the face load factor (KHβ) in parallel-axis spur and helical gears. It determines the non-uniform load distribution across the gear face width and its effect on surface stress. The tool is primarily used for the purpose of checking, but also possible for contact pattern validation and design optimization of the helix modification in particular. The result can be used as input to the Gear Rating Tool.
Key Features
- Face load factor calculation for parallel axis spur and helical gears based on the graphical method on DNV Class Guidelines 0036.
- Load Distribution Analysis considering elastic deflection and linear misalignments like bearing clearance, helix modifications and so on.
- Tooth contact pattern validation using graphical deflection visualization.
- Lead modifications analysis to optimize helix corrections, crowning, and end relief.
- Mesh misalignment input allowing users to specify linear misalignment and evaluate its impact on load distribution.
Workflow
- Define gear parameters including gear data and tooth geometry.
- Input load data, lead modifications, mesh misalignment and running-in amounts.
- Calculate face load factor (KHβ) to determine contact stress distribution.
- Analyze & Optimize Load Distribution by adjusting the lead modification properties.
- Generate Reports summarizing face load analysis, stress distribution, and recommended modifications.
- The calculated face load factors can be input to the Gear Rating calculation.
