Batch

The Batch Framework (often referred to as “Batch”) allows users to queue up calculations to be run at a later time, either on the local machine, across multiple machines on the network, or using the Bladed Cloud service.

The following resources are available which provide instructions on how to use Batch:

  • Batch Framework User Manual
The manual can be opened from the Batch client window (Help icon bar button).
It can also be found in the Batch application folder (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\DNV\Batch 1.6).

Important points to note when setting up a Batch network

  • The Batch client needs to be installed and running on all runner machines, before starting to set up a Batch network.
  • However, it is not necessary for all required Bladed versions to be installed on every runner machine (see point below about mapping executables).
  • All runner machines need access to a Bladed license.
  • The Batch folder needs to be located on a network drive that all runner machines have access to (i.e. it cannot be located on a local machine).
  • When creating the jobs in Bladed GUI, it is usually convenient to specify the dtbladed.exe file to be on a custom location on a network drive (that all runner machines have access to), by mapping the executable using the - Project Info screen in the Bladed GUI. Otherwise, all runner machines will need to have the same version of Bladed installed in the same place. This is explained in Section 3.5 of the Batch Framework user manual.
  • When adding jobs to the Batch job list, the output folder should be specified on a network drive (that all runner machines have access to), as otherwise the results will be saved locally on whichever runner machine runs the jobs, and it may be inconvenient retrieving the results from the runner machine.
